2011 Love Your Parks Day Surveyors

Love Your Parks Day, 2011
Over 30 volunteer surveyors gathered at the Lakeside Park Garden Center at 8:30 am on Saturday, October 1 to finish surveying Oakland parks on Saturday, October 1. OPC Park Stewards had spent the month of September surveying and photograph conditions at their own parks (about half of the 120 parks in Oakland) so the volunteers tackled the remaining parks. They formed teams while they knoshed on breakfast sweet rolls and, after a brief training, the teams sallied forth to survey 3-6 parks each.
By noon all the surveys had been completed and then began the long and intricate process of collating and analyzing the data for the report that will follow. The report should show the relative condition of our parks compared to last year at this time. The comparison will also be drawn among Council Districts, types of parks, and various categories within parks, such as children's play structures or sports fields. Both the data and the report will be published on this site before the end of the year and we will announce it by newsletter and on the home page of this website.
